Summary Outcome
The project is to demonstrate the use of zero ODP, very low GWP fluids as refrigerants. NH3 is an excellent refrigerant but not suitable inside a cold storage hence CO2 is used in the secondary loop inside the cold storage. Using Natural circulation due to its inherent advantages. Evaporator temperature -5oC, Ambient temperature 35oC The complete system was developed that comprised of three main subsystems: primary refrigeration system working with NH3 refrigerant, secondary refrigeration system working on Natural Circulation Loop with CO2 as a refrigerant inside the cold storage Mathematical models and computer codes for design and analysis of CO2 based secondary loop systems was developed A design and operation guide was prepared for cold storages with a NH3/CO2 based primary/secondary loop refrigeration system
